As a first-generation American, Miguel has utilized almost twenty years of professional experience in recruitment, higher education, strategic planning, and business development to develop a multifaceted understanding of the social and cultural factors that impact Latino career choice and professional success.

Miguel’s professional experience has crossed two industries: corporate America and higher education. He gained first-hand knowledge about Hispanic college students working as a career advisor at the University of Texas at El Paso, one of the largest Hispanic serving institutions in the United States. Miguel has also developed strategies for attracting college talent by directing the College Recruitment operations for Nestle, USA. As the recruitment director for Security Capital Group, Miguel designed and implemented all facets of a successful college recruitment program.

Miguel earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in Organizational Behavior and a Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. For 10 years, Miguel has also served as a faculty member for several online universities teaching graduate and undergraduate business courses.

Research Interests

Miguel specializes in Latino leadership characteristics, organizational experiences, and career choices. Miguel’s dissertation work, The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Transformational Leadership: A Hispanic American Examination, examined the leadership behaviors among Latino professionals. His latest research is an examination of recent Latino graduates.
